21 Proven Motivation Tactics for Self and Employee Motivation

If you want to make things happen the ability to motivate yourself and others is a crucial skill. At work, home, and everywhere in between, people use motivation to get results. Motivation requires a delicate balance of communication, structure, and incentives. These 21 tactics will help you maximize motivation in yourself and others.

1. Consequences - Never use threats. They’ll turn people against you. But making people aware of the negative consequences of not getting results (for everyone involved) can have a big impact. This one is also big for self motivation. If you don’t get your act together, will you ever get what you want?

2. Pleasure - This is the old carrot on a stick technique. Providing pleasurable rewards creates eager and productive people.

3. Performance incentives - Appeal to people’s selfish nature. Give them the opportunity to earn more for themselves by earning more for you.

4. Detailed instructions - If you want a specific result, give specific instructions. People work better when they know exactly what’s expected.

5. Short and long term goals
- Use both short and long term goals to guide the action process and create an overall philosophy.

6. Kindness - Get people on your side and they’ll want to help you. Piss them off and they’ll do everything they can to screw you over.

7. Deadlines - Many people are most productive right before a big deadline. They also have a hard time focusing until that deadline is looming overhead. Use this to your advantage by setting up a series of mini-deadlines building up to an end result.

8. Team Spirit
- Create an environment of camaraderie. People work more effectively when they feel like part of team — they don’t want to let others down.

10. Recognize achievement - Make a point to recognize achievements one-on-one and also in group settings. People like to see that their work isn’t being ignored.

11. Personal stake - Think about the personal stake of others. What do they need? By understanding this you’ll be able to keep people happy and productive.

12. Concentrate on outcomes - No one likes to work with someone standing over their shoulder. Focus on outcomes — make it clear what you want and cut people loose to get it done on their own.

13. Trust and Respect - Give people the trust and respect they deserve and they’ll respond to requests much more favorably.

14. Create challenges - People are happy when they’re progressing towards a goal. Give them the opportunity to face new and difficult problems and they’ll be more enthusiastic.

15. Let people be creative - Don’t expect everyone to do things your way. Allowing people to be creative creates a more optimistic environment and can lead to awesome new ideas.

16. Constructive criticism
- Often people don’t realize what they’re doing wrong. Let them know. Most people want to improve and will make an effort once they know how to do it.

17. Demand improvement - Don’t let people stagnate. Each time someone advances raise the bar a little higher (especially for yourself).

18. Make it fun - Work is most enjoyable when it doesn’t feel like work at all. Let people have fun and the positive environment will lead to better results.

19. Create opportunities - Give people the opportunity to advance. Let them know that hard work will pay off.

20. Communication
- Keep the communication channels open. By being aware of potential problems you can fix them before a serious dispute arises.

21. Make it stimulating - Mix it up. Don’t ask people to do the same boring tasks all the time. A stimulating environment creates enthusiasm and the opportunity for “big picture” thinking.

What does it mean to give MORE than 100%? Ever wonder about those people who say they are giving more than 100%? We have all been to those meetings where someone wants you to give over 100%. How about achieving 103%?What makes up 100% in life?

Here's a little mathematical formula that might help you answer these questions:

Student shooting in Virginia Tech

I am so sad and mourning hearing about the shooting in Virginia Tech University. All the students said that they never expect this happen, because it is a very safe place. I thought that what usually happen in our life, we have a secure life and peaceful one and suddenly a crazy guy ruins all those things.

Maybe this gives us a lesson to be aware all the time (not restless... of course). Expect the unexpected, its just like when we drive on the lonely street, no obstacle and suddenly there is a stupid young man rides his bike cross the street without seeing left and right. I hit once this kind of guy, fortunately not in a high speed. If I were speeding, I think he must have died...

My the souls of the Virginia Tech's students rest in peace in God's arms. GBU everybody.

heavy rain

I have packed all my stuffs yesterday to go back home and guess what... something happened, the rain poured so hard and with ice.... and little flood everywhere... I mean it really flood :-D

My car was still able to go through the flood but I was afraid if the water would came in... fortunately not. Everything was fine until I just could see 1 meter ahead of me because of the wind so strong and the heavy rain....

I could reached the freeway after half an hour and when I got there, the rain suddenly stop. What happened here?? What's wrong with our tropical climate?... Maybe our pollution has made a 'good' result for our future life :-(

Five for fighting

I type this story while listening to the music, the music of the Five for fighting's album, the sound really give me peace and calmness in my mind, it is slow and not too slow either... :-D so I won't fall asleep... :-P

Today I really forgot to hand the Windows XP CD tomy friend, I know he need it badly, it is his that I borrowed last time to update my Windows into SP 2 version. I drove from my workplace to Muhammad Toha's freeway exit, I gave it to him and rushed back to the office.

While driving I was thinking about God, His love and care and forgiveness. I almost forget Him all long week because of my business and give no attention at all sometimes... I'm sorry Lord...

Now, it just finish raining outside, it is cold here and I am facing my laptop again and again... I think my laptop started to get bored of seeing my face everyday... :)))

Liverpool club owned by Americans

If this really happens, Liverpool will be the seventh club owned by foreigners. They are: Aston Villa (Randy Lerner/USA), Chelsea (Roman Abramovich/Russia), Fulham (Mohammed Al-Fayed/Egypt), Manchester United (Malcolm Glazer/USA), Portsmouth (Alexander Gaydamak/France), West Ham (Eggert Magnusson/Iceland). George Gillet and Tom Hicks are the men who will buy it.

The price is estimated 470 Millions Pounds, which means the second most expensive after Manchester United took over by Glazer's family.

New stadium will be built, better squad and better Liverpool... At least that's their promise... :-D

Jakarta Flooded

I was about to go to Jakarta last Friday, I already made a promise to my close friend that I wanted to visit her. She was my lecturer in the college and since that day we became friend. She has become the second mother to me. She comes from Virginia, USA.

But, that morning I didn't feel very well, I thought that something was wrong in Jakarta. I turned on the TV and I couldn't believe my eyes, flooded all around in Jakarta, I saw houses were drowned, people lacked of food, help was very rare, 20 people died (est), thousands of houses gone.

I just wonder, what our government or the governor of Jakarta has done for the past 10 years? NOTHING!!! They are just too busy talking and then take some 'sleep'. The weather forecast says that for the next three days, Jakarta will still be in heavy rainy.

I don't see any quick actions for the suffering people. The main street of Jakarta, like THamrin or Sudirman street are still flooded. What an ashamed 'accident' !! When will this country bureaucrats change??

Biker oh... biker... :-D

I hit a motorcycle 2 weeks ago, just a day before I went to Jakarta, I drove in average speed, I guess around 60 km/h. I already saw the bike at the left side, I thought he was not going to move suddenly into middle of the street. But I was wrong....

He suddenly moved his way and I couldn't avoid him because he was too slow, maybe 10 km/h, and I was 'too fast'... and that's it... I hit his motor exhaust pipe, he 'flew' to the left side and his bike rolled ahead. I stunt... it was too fast... I stop and looked at him, how he was doing... he was shocked and prayed according to his religion.....

I said," Iam sorry and I will responsible for all this"
He said OK.... I took him to the hospital, had repaired his bike and all OK.... but it took so long from 10.00 - 15.00 o'clock...

My car front bumper was 'doom' hehehe... I just finish to fix it yesterday.

I just heard a song from Five for Fighting, All I know, I am so touched by the lyric. It is really slow and simple song, but deep in meaning. I really love it :-)

I am so happy that today I can start to connect to the internet using my provider, CBN.
I have missed many days of writing in my blog, I miss my blogs, I wonder if it's still there or not... hehehe...
